Earlier I was watching this show on cable…House Hunters…where this young couple was shown 3 houses and they had to pick the one they felt was best for them.   OMGosh, they picked a “fixer upper”.  Young AND stupid…helluva way to start their new life!

Did you ever see the movie “The Money Pit” about the couple who buys this massive old home and have visions of fixing it up?  Sounded good on paper, but in the end it kept breaking faster than they could fix it up.  That’s what I thought of when I saw what this young couple in Savannah, GA bought.  I build NEW homes, and I understand how much money it takes to build one, and renovating costs MUCH more than building from scratch.  

Today they have visions of “the American Dream”.  I’d like to follow them over the next year or two as they go from wild-eyed idealists, through the “Oh shit, HOW MUCH?” stage, to the “this is all YOUR fault” stage, and finally to divorce court.  

I can hear them now…”You can have the house.”

“No, I insist, YOU take the house.”

“Hell no….YOU take it.

We didn’t eat our meal until 3:30, followed by birthday sweets.  Luckily K was driving or else I would have fallen asleep and driven us into a ditch.  Now we’re back and I have to get dressed up (still casual, though) and go to my cousin’s “family visitation” at the funeral home.  I really don’t want to do this, but of course I must.

That being the case, can you imagine how good a donut made by a cop would be?  Mmmmmm! I mean, if ANYONE knows donuts, it’s the cops, right?  I read where a group of “do-right boys” from Clare, Michigan have opened their own donut shop.  Seems their favorite hang-out was going to close, so they just bought the place.  That should be the safest place in town, too, what with every cop car in town parked in front.

Today is being spent with the out-laws.  Seems everyone in that family has a b-day in July.  (K’s is the 8th.) So to be efficient, they celebrate everyone’s birthday at one time, and throw in a belated Fathers Day for good measure. Even Emma Belle gets to go….I think she’s more excited than we are, because she just KNOWS someone is going to drop some cake, or maybe a bit of hamburger.
