A couple of days ago there was a big 100 mph car chase here in Dallas that lasted for nearly 2 hours and was shown live on several national cable channels. The Dallas County Constables started it and followed the bad guy until he finally ran a red light and was broadsided not far from where I used to live.
Now Channel 8 is all over the County Constables for their chase policy and the danger they put the public in. The whole thing started as a simple traffic stop, and a check with HQ showed he had a drug warrant outstanding. He wasn’t a violent fugitive. Seems to me if they have a police helicopter overhead watching where he goes they could back off a little so he doesn’t blast through intersections. I agree with Channel 8, particularly because those idiot wannabe cops are good for nothin’ but running radar and eatin’ donuts. I regularly drive down Central Expwy and see Constables passing me going well over the speed limit without lights or sirens. I’m guessing they were pulled off radar duty to go to traffic court downtown to testify and are just running late.
Last week I saw a County Constable parked on the wrong side of a street running radar. Cars wanting to turn onto that street had to swing wide into oncoming traffic to get around this fat bastard, creating a traffic jam if that oncoming lane was occupied. I had my little camera with me and got a photo of the guy (and yes, he was fat) showing date, time of day, car #, street sign, etc. I’ve emailed Channel 8 and offered it to them so they can put the County Constables on the hot seat some more. So far I haven’t heard back.
I have no ax to grind with the County Mounties, and in fact haven’t received a ticket of any kind in years (miracle!). I just don’t like seeing these cops flagrantly breaking the law, then giving tickets to others. They should be returned to donut shop security duty.
